Indonesia on High Alert Ahead of Easter Celebrations

Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim nation, is on high alert ahead of Easter celebrations after a slew of bomb threats in recent weeks, a government minister said Thursday.
Earlier in the day police found a bomb near a church and gas pipeline on the outskirts of the capital Jakarta. A local TV reported that police have detained 19 people suspected in recent bomb threats and attacks.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono “has instructed all security forces to be on high alert ahead of Easter celebrations following recent bomb threats,“ Djoko Suyanto, coordinating minister for politics, law and security said after he met with the president.
“The security status is effective throughout the country, in worshipping places, places or events that attract large crowds, tourists sites, embassies, and other places that we've listed,“ he said.
Last week, a suicide bomber killed himself and wounded more than 20 people at a mosque in Cirebon, a major city in West Java province. Last month, a small bomb exploded in the capital Jakarta, and police defused several others.
