Indonesia's Annual Sugar Imports Reach 500 Tons
Indonesia still imports some 500 tons of sugar per annum to meet its domestic need, plantation company PT PN X director Subiyono said.
"Import is still done because production at home is not yet able to meet domestic need," he said here on Wednesday.
He said that Indonesia’s national need for sugar per annum was about three million tons while the country’s production capacity was only about 2.6 million tons.
"This means that there are still shortages of about 400 to 500 tons," he added.
