Location Based Servicse (LBS) is the services that provide users to deliver
information tailored to current location. LBS have been successfully implemented
for tracking geographical location of mobile devices, navigation, spatial
information, etc. LBS also demand a context aware of object identification to
dynamically adapt contextual information change, in this term refers to location.
Unfortunately, this cannot be implemented yet in Symbian operating system.
This final project focuses on developing object detection of landmark or
point of interest (POI) in ITB Guide, a standalone LBS application. ITB is a
campus area that consists of many faculty buildings and university lecture rooms,
thus it is important to provide landmark information for users to easily access
information about landmark arounds. This development involve enhance feature
to access further information through internet connection to website address
’landmark or initializing call based on detail information of landmark.
ITB Guide is designated by UML and developed using J2ME. This
application allow positioning technologies by GPS through Bluetooth connection
or aGPS (assisted GPS) with a help from celluler network. It is also vital to
deploy application in a way that makes it easy for a user to download and install
anywhere at campus through WLAN ITB by Over The Air (OTA) provisioning.
